Overflightstock is proud to have received general membership to the Digital Media Licensing Association.
Working to insure the future of our industry
For over 60 year the Digital Media Licensing Association (DMLA), formerly known as PACA, has developed business standards, promoted ethical business practices and actively advocated copyright protection on behalf of its members. In this era of continuous change, we have remained an active community where vital information is shared and common interests are explored.
In this digital world, people believe content should be free. DMLA believes that creators should determine when and how their content is distributed and shared. DMLA has been leading the charge to protect copyright and ensure fair licensing standards exist. There has never been a more important time in our industry…copyright is at risk!
We are working to ensure the future of our industry by focusing on important issues such as:
- Orphan Works legislation
- Copyright Small Claims Court
- Unresolved cases on copyright registration
In addition, DMLA educates and informs its members on issues including technology, tools, and changes in the marketplace. DMLA also connects its members through webinars, its annual conference, industry networking events, and by bringing together buyers and sellers with DMLAsearch. Our members are provided a comprehensive selection of legal documents necessary for starting and maintaining a licensing business. This includes ready to use forms for licensing media, terms and conditions for use, and for forming partnerships with distributors and contributors.
DMLA was established in 1951 by a core group of New York stock photo agencies concerned about the protection of original transparencies. Today DMLA membership includes more than 100 companies representing the world of digital content licensing. DMLA has evolved as the world has moved online but our focus has remained constant: to protect the rights of creators and those representing their work.
DMLA is a unique community of visual media licensing professionals working together to build a stronger industry. No matter what corner of the industry you represent, we face similar concerns. Management, distribution, and content development, are relevant to every organization and keeping on top of the latest developments, as well as rights and licensing, is imperative.
Joining a trade association has everything to do with being a united voice. DMLA’s greatest strength lies within its membership. Together we can accomplish what individual companies cannot through collaboration and exploiting our strengths. By growing, our organization can have a greater impact on Congress, the courts, the Copyright office and the way laws are written, protected, and enforced for our members’ businesses.
DMLA’S Mission Statement: To promote and protect the interests of the media licensing community through advocacy, education and communication.
